Entering the machine room reduces you to silence: this is how beautiful technology can be. A well-designed bed, sitting comfort from Charles Eames and a shower bath for two provide the finishing touch. The lighting and audio-visual electronics are all touch screen operated.
A little staircase leads from the main room to the cabin. With a careful push to the left or right the crane with its sixty-five thousand kilos of steel starts rotating. 360 degrees round, you manipulate the panorama.
The Lilla Marras served as lifeboat from 1955 to 1979 at several places on the British coast. During that period she performed 105 rescue operations and saved 45 lives. The Lilla Marras is a work of art – completely restored and adapted to its new use. With respect for the boat’s inimitable lines, everything has been done to make the lower deck a comfortable place to stay. The aft cabin of the ship serves as day-time accommodation. It is here that you can enjoy your breakfast, which is quietly delivered in the pilothouse first thing in the morning. On deck, there are plenty of neat places to sit and enjoy the harbour, the town and the sea. There is a water lily-shaped bed and a wooden two-person bath in the fore-cabin. The Harlingen Lifeboat provides comfortable lodging for everyone who is not physically challenged in terms of walking and bending. If you wish to experience more of the Lifeboat you can order a private captain. He will be eager to show you during a two-hour trip just how agile this classic lifesaver still is.
Harlingen Lighthouse forms part of a network of lights along the Dutch coast. Eighteen of the twenty lighthouses are still in use.
The stairwell is more spacious than you might expect. After a number of turns, the stairs bring you to the first of three floors. This is the bath floor with the striking, circular shower. You arrive at the next floor via a curved hallway. This is the most important living area with a made-to-size bed, a small sitting area and a worktop with all the facilities for a leisurely stay. The surrounding glass makes it possible for you to enjoy the panoramic view — even from your bed. A steep set of stairs brings you to the spot where a lamp the size of a Skippy ball once shone. You can take your seat at a table for two or, if you prefer, you can step out onto the fenced-in platform surrounding the lantern room.
Every morning, the lighthouse keeper delivers the breakfast basket with fresh and delicious rolls.
Harlingen Lighthouse is suitable for day-time and night-time occupation by two people. The facilities are on three levels in the top section:
1. Bathroom level with circular shower, toilet and washbasin
2. Tower room with bed, sitting area and worktop
3. Lantern room and platform
