Vortrag in englischer Sprache von Dan Lewis, Nairobi, im Rahmen der Ausstellung THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX – An innovative approach to current urban challenges
This conference; “Thinking outside the box”, focuseson four thematic elements namely; affordable housing, urban mobility, publicspaces, and disaster management. Thislecture is about how all of these and more, are essential elements for asustainable disaster management agenda – one that builds resilience in citiesglobally.
The world is changing – at the international! level (UN norms); in emerging communities of practice (in academia and aid); allgravitating towards common ground, common purpose, and common practice. Thecatalyst is new thinking on urban resilience; developing shared value inunderstanding how cities function and fail, and how local governments and theirstakeholders can strengthen urban capacity to withstand shocks and stresses, and recover quickly – from their impacts. This new, shared value is changing paradigms of learning, business, development, governance and aid and reinventing engagements that are critical tosustainability.
It examines the way in w! hich academia, commerce, aid, have historically been sectoralized and offers a new systems basedapproach to integrate resilience based planning, development and governance ormanagement in cities, to meet the commitments of the Sustainable DevelopmentGoals, the expected outputs from Habitat 3, and align them with the ambitionsof cities everywhere.
